about aston

This site is dedicated to Fran McLaughin who created the original site from which we were motivated to present all of what you see. He dedicated much of the final years of his life creating Aston Township's first municipal website. In thanks, we have maintained some of what he created here in memory of his efforts. The banner, the color scheme, and some of the design work still remain in his honor.

Vet Memorial Dedicated

The formal dedication of the Aston Township Veterans Memorial Garden at Five Points Intersection was held on Flag Day, completing a project that started in 2001 with the township's purchase of a vacant gas station from Exxon/Mobil Corp. for $175,000.

The long-awaited ATVMG dedication ceremony included Sun Valley ROTC, veterans groups, local politicians, Boy Scouts and Brownies. A symbolic bell toll for each Aston veteran or emergency responder who made the ultimate sacrifice was followed by the blowing of taps and a 21-gun salute.

The centerpiece monument displays the names of 38 servicemen and one female soldier who were killed during a military deployment, most of whom lost their lives in World War II.

Herbert Pinkowicz, a firefighter who was killed while en route to an alarm in 1986, is the lone emergency responder to have died in the service of his community.

Free beverages, hot dogs and apple pie were served to everyone in attendance at the conclusion of the program.

The ATVMG Foundation sold chances prior to the dedication as a fundraiser. Township resident Cliff Thompson won the 40-inch flat screen tv, while a pair of tickets to a Phillies game was won by Ada Conrad.

A third order of engraved paver bricks is now being put together by ATVMG organizers. Call Maryann Bullen at 610-494-2337 for more information.
