Commissioners Praise
Gas Leak
Response
The
underground gas leak in the Buckeye Pipeline that was first
detected along Cherry Tree Rd. on Dec. 29 had not yet been fully
resolved as of the Jan. 20 Aston commissioners meeting, but the
board had nothing but praise for the diligent actions of the
township's emergency responders, who were on hand round the clock
at the outset to protect their fellow residents.
"I can't thank our emergency responders
enough for how they handled that situation. They were there 24/7
for the first couple days," Commissioners President Gary
Robinson stated on Jan. 20.

Aston Applauds Youth Champs
Commissioners
recently congratulated several Aston youth sports teams in
recognition of their outstanding seasons.
St.
Joseph Parochial School's varsity soccer team won the 2009 Catholic
Youth League Region 25 Soccer Championship with a perfect 10-0
season, outscoring the competition by a whopping 45-2 goal margin
during the regular season.
Under
the leadership of Coaches Len Balestrieri and Tom Patterson and
Athletic Director Warren Kiers, last year's 7th and 8th-grade St.
Joseph's soccer squad was the parish's first team to make the
Philadelphia Archdiocesan Central playoffs in 14 years.

For
the first time in the 56-year history of the Delco Football League,
one organization - the Aston Athletic Association - produced four
finalist football teams in last year's championships, after posting
an astounding 30-1-1 combined record.
Under
the leadership of Coaches Ernie and Tom Ellis and their assistants,
the Pee Wee and Midget Division Bandits were both perfect with 11-0
records. The Midget Division had 10 defensive shutouts and allowed
but one TD against them all season long, while putting up a
league-leading 285 points on offense.
