Free Rainbarrel and Rain Garden Workshops for Delaware County Residents The Delaware County Conservation District, in partnership with Pennsylvania Resources Council, is offering a series of four free Rain barrel and Rain Garden Workshops for residents of Delaware County. The goal of the program is to educate homeowners about various storm water management practices that can be implemented, around the home, in order to help improve the water quality of our local streams and other bodies of water. The PA Department of Environmental Protection’s Environmental Education Grants Program is providing funding for these workshops. In densely developed areas such as Delaware County, the cumulative effect of storm water runoff from rooftops, parking lots and other impervious surfaces negatively impacts the health of streams. Through these workshops, residents of Delaware County can learn about the various problems associated with storm water runoff, as well as non-point sources of pollution that are commonly found in their neighborhoods. Residents will learn ways they can help protect our water resources though the use of rain barrels and rain gardens. Workshop participants will also be provided with a free rain barrel and instructions for installation. NOTE: There is a limited amount of rain barrels available at each workshop. A rain barrel will be provided to the first 20 workshop attendees who are Delaware County residents. Limit one rain barrel per household. Upcoming (1st) Workshop: Tuesday, March 9, 2010 7PM Location: Pennsylvania Resources Council For more information or to sign up, email Diana Andrejczak by clicking her name, or call her at: (610) 353-1555 ext. 232 To register online: Click here |
