From
the Board of Commissioners
It’s
time for the mistletoe and holly to be put away! “Out with the
old and in with the” …well… New Year.
During
2006, we made a concerted effort to make our Township a healthier
and safer place to live, and our number one priority for the
coming year is to continue that effort.
In
2007, an abundance of new policies and procedures are “in the
works” that focus on safety issues. The Code Enforcement
Department will be refining its “complaint processing” to
allow residents to report safety issues directly to the
Township’s Web site as well as by phone. There will be
additional staff added to Code Enforcement to enhance the regular
inspection process of residential and commercial rental units.
These inspections will focus on fire alarms and fire prevention
equipment as well as electrical service and plumbing to ensure
that all rental units are safe. The Public Works Department
continues to provide the maintenance to our roads and storm water
systems upon which we are all dependent for safe travel. In
addition, this year Public Works will be responsible for a special
drainage project to repair and improve the Third and Fourth Ward
storm water drainage systems.

The
Health Department will be adding new software to allow it to track
the operations of the food establishments in the Township.
The
Police Department will continue their efforts to improve public
safety through random “seat belt check points” and safety
education programs for our students.
The
Township in conjunction with Pennsylvania Department
of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR)
will provide information about improving water quality in
our Township. In 2007, each edition of this newsletter will
present information and helpful hints on how we can all work to
improve water quality.
