From the Board of Commissioners

A standing ovation erupted at last month’s Commissioners meeting on January 18, 2006 in recognition of the three police officers who saved two lives after responding to a domestics call this past June 2006.

Officer Robert Jones, Officer Dennis Killian, and Sergeant Michael Ruggieri, were called to assist as backup to the Chester Township Police Department and found themselves dealing with a man who had just taken the life of a pregnant, young mother (his cousin) and was in the process of assaulting one of her children, who later died at the hospital.  The young mother’s two other children had been injured during the ordeal but survived the attack due to the heroic efforts of Officer Jones, Officer Killian, and Sergeant Ruggieri.

Additional police backup came from neighboring police departments before the assailant was finally taken into custody.

The family of the surviving children was in attendance on January 18th to present awards to Officer Jones, Officer Killian, and Sergeant Ruggieri and to publicly thank them for saving the lives of these two precious children.

In addition, the Board of Commissioners presented commendations in which Commissioner Bill Jones stated, “The courage and devotion to duty displayed by these officers was extraordinary.”

We, the Board of Commissioners, once again, thank Officer Robert Jones, Officer Dennis Killian, and Sergeant Michael Ruggieri, for their dedication that far exceeds, above and beyond, the call of duty.
