   From the Board of Commissioners

After the death of Commissioner Jones on December 27, the remaining commissioners assumed the daunting task of selecting a replacement for the remainder of his term. There were six very qualified candidates willing to step forward and serve.

The Commissioners interviewed the candidates on the evening of January 23 and selected Michael Fulginiti. Mr. Fulginiti was promptly installed as the 1st Ward Commissioner on January 24.

Mike Fulginiti assumes 1st Ward responsibilities

Mike Fulginiti is best known to the residents of Aston as the proprietor of Fulginiti Insurance and Aston Auto Tags located on Concord Road at Five Points. He is a 1979 graduate of Cheyney University. During the 22 years that he has been a Township resident, he has been an active member in the Aston Business Association, the Aston Republican Club, the Aston Lions Club, and the Penn Delco School District Superintendent Community Advisory Board. As a father, together with his wife Andrea, he has participated in

Aston Youth Soccer, Aston Basketball, and Sun Valley Post Prom Committees. As a good citizen, he supported Aston Needy Families, both Aston Township Fire Departments, Aston Community Day, the Aston Directory, and the Aston Veteran Memorial Garden.

When asked why he was interested in the Commissioner position, he stated that he “just wanted to help.” “As a resident for 22 years and a business owner for 15 years, there is a deep understanding of the community and its culture” he stated.

There’s no question that he will have the opportunity.  His predecessor was a member of nine committees and chaired three of those committees. Although all of the Commissioners will need to fill the untimely void, it seems that the Board of Commissioners has made a good choice to assist in covering those arduous tasks.

Hidden Treasure

Every community has one …or two. Neumann College is an obvious treasure, but behind the scenes is one of the hidden treasures of Aston - the Arts Guild at Neumann College.

The Arts Guild at Neumann College was established in 1991 to enhance the high level of cultural enrichment presented to the Delaware Valley Community. The six member organizations, Center Stage Productions, the Cultural Arts Forum, the Delaware County Symphony, the Neumann College Concert Chorale, the Neumann College Jazz Ensemble,

offer performances and seminars in the Fred P. Meagher Theatre in an atmosphere that provides fine acoustics, architectural excellence, and comfortable continental seating.

During the Spring 2007 schedule, which for the non-student means NOW, there is an abundance of music on campus and it’s all open to the public. Starting February 11th, the campus will resonate with concerts until the first week in May.  Gershwin, Mahler, Mozart, Schumann and more will be performed this spring.

On February 11th, the Delaware County Symphony (DCS) chamber series concert will feature the DCS Jazz Ensemble. The Ensemble at the direction of Roman Pawlowski will perform jazz arrangements, both originals and adaptations from Mozart.

Piano Duo: Fire Dance will be presented on February 23rd. Pianist and Neumann faculty member Mariá José Martín will join forces with pianist Christopher Bradshaw to perform the exotic music of Spanish composers Manuel de Falla and Donostia and the rhythmic works of Gershwin, Gottschalk, and Amy Beach.

In addition to the musical events, there are art exhibits of emerging artists from the surrounding area, and theater events featuring classical ballet, children’s theatre, and opera.

The general admission is very reasonable with discounts to many of the events being offered to senior citizens. So get out and enjoy!
