about aston

This site is dedicated to Fran McLaughin who created the original site from which we were all motivated to present all of what you see. He dedicated much of the final years of his life creating Aston Township's first municipal website. In thanks, we have maintained some of what he created here in memory of his efforts. The banner, the color scheme, and some of the design work still remain in his honor.

Join the Easter Egg Hunt

Your community Easter Egg Hunt needs you! A free Easter Egg Hunt for all young Aston residents will be held at 10am on Saturday, March 15 on the fields adjacent to the Aston Community Center on Concord Rd.

Prizes will be given to three different age groups: up to 3 years, 4 to 7, and 8 and older. Each participant is asked to bring their own bag or basket to haul away the bounty.

This will be the second year that the township has held a community-wide event at the Community Center. The organizers are hoping for more egg hunters this year, after last year’s eager participants essentially walked off with all they could carry.

“So get all your children and all the grandchildren you can gather up,” First Ward Commissioner V. Michael Fulginiti recently invited. “We don’t bury the eggs too deeply – they’re pretty easy to find,” he assures.

Other Egg Hunts in Aston:

Fourth Ward Commissioner Gary Robinson is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for residents of his ward at 1pm on Saturday, March 15 at Woodbrook Park on Lamppost Ln. In case of rain, this event will be moved to the same time on the following day, March 16.

American Legion Post 926 will host an Easter Egg Hunt at the Community Center on Saturday, March 22, from 1-3pm.

Aston Township offices will be closed and no trash will be collected on Good Friday, March 21.

Friday’s trash route will be collected along with Thursday’s route on Thursday, March 20

Emergency Responders Commended

On Dec. 27, Aston emergency personnel responded to a maternity call and delivered a baby boy to a family on Convent Rd.

Last month, Aston commissioners honored four individuals for the successful intervention. Michael Cocoska, Lorraine Doyle, Thomas Morgan, Jr. and Sarah Walters received township proclamations, as well as plaques and stork pins from their respective departments.

The Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Co.  responded to 365 medical alarms and 529 fire scenes in 2007.

The Aston-Beechwood Volunteer Fire Co. answered a total of 443 fire calls last year, while their ambulance corps responded to 1,482 emergency medical situations.

Commissioners VP Frank Murphy recognized Aston-Beechwood’s 60th anniversary of community service.

“On behalf of the board of commissioners, I want to publicly thank the men and women of the Aston-Beechwood Fire Co. and Ambulance Service for 60 years of outstanding volunteer service to this township. We commend you and thank you for your assistance,” Murphy stated.

Auction To Benefit Vet Memorial

A silent auction and 50/50 raffle fundraiser for the Aston Township Veterans Memorial Garden will be held from 7-11pm on Saturday, March 29 at the IBEW Hall on Chichester Ave. in Boothwyn. Volunteers are needed.

The event will feature a DJ and dancing, exceptional auction items, a wagon of cheer, food, and $2 cash beverages.

Auction tickets are $25 per person, and can be purchased until March 20 at Iron Workers Bank, New Age Concepts, or directly through Kit Spayd. Tables of 10 are available for purchase.

The ATVMG Foundation and the Aston Business Association are also planning to host another golf outing in April or May.

For ad booklet information, contact Spayd at 484-995-3274 or  vetfundraising @yahoo.com.

The Aston Township Veterans Memorial Garden Foundation is still $50,000 short of their goal of financing the construction and perpetual maintenance of the uncompleted memorial at Five Points Intersection.

The engraved paver bricks have been delivered and will soon be laid in place, while landscaping is finished in the spring. A formal dedication ceremony has been slated for June 14, Flag Day.

“It’s been four or five years since we started this project,” noted ATVMGF member Tom Sprows. “We’ve had very favorable comments as to how that corner looks now.”

“That corner was an eyesore for a lot of years. From where it started to where it is today, is something the committee and the entire township can take pride in,” Commissioner Gary Robinson observed.
