From the Board of Commissioners
On August 17, 2005, Jeffrey Pilla was appointed as 2nd
ward commissioner, a position that was previously held by Lew Fisher
until his passing on July 18. Jeffrey
has resided in Aston for 13 years and currently serves on the board
of Penn-Delco School district.
Recently promoted, within our police department, are John
Dell and Chad Osborn. Officers
Dell and Osborn were promoted to the rank of sergeant, effective
August 27. Congratulations

We are pleased to announce newly appointed Penn-Delco School
District administrators. A
warm welcome goes to Ms. Holly Acosta, assistant principal at
Northley Middle School; Mr. Gary Bender, principal at Aston
Elementary School; and Mr. Thomas Jakubczyk, principal at Sun Valley
High School. Welcome

We continue to obtain information on the history of
Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority (SWDCMA) and
are planning a public meeting that will be held at the Aston
Community Center in early October to discuss our progress.
The date and time will be announced in October’s newsletter
and will also be listed on cable channel 10.
Township engineer, Joseph Viscuso, P.E., will discuss the
results of the 2005 storm water drainage study with a PowerPoint
presentation on September 28, 7pm, at the Aston Community Center.
This study is a result of the numerous storm water drainage
situations that were brought to the attention of the Public Works
committee earlier this year. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Giant® Food Store will be opening late fall, 2005.
A team from Giant® headquarters’ human resource division
will host a “mass hire” within the next few weeks to conduct
on-site interviews.
Approximately
175 employees, both part–
and full-time, are needed.
Dates, times, and location for interviews will be announced
through news media and cable channel 10. |

cheers to Iron Workers Bank for their fundraising efforts
through golf tournaments and Relay-For-Life program.
Iron Workers executives Mr. Oliver Armitage, Chairman,
and Mr. Morte Smitham, Community Banking Officer, presented a
check for $11,956 to Jennifer Clark, Community Income Development
Specialist for the American Cancer Society.

Federation of Women’s Clubs
will resume their monthly meetings starting September 26, 7pm, at
the Aston Community Center. Women,
of all ages, are invited to join this volunteer organization.
Whether single, married, working or retired, all are welcome!
This is a volunteer group that makes a difference in our

The Aston Business Association is sponsoring the
fourth annual Aston Township Community Day that will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2005 (rain date Sunday,

October 2, 2005).
A parade will kick off the day’s festivities at 10am,
starting at Neumann College, and ending at the Aston Community
Center. Numerous
events, games, and activities are scheduled on the grounds of the
Community Center between 11am and 4pm along with the Aston Business
and Community Expo that will be
held inside the Community Center
building. |
