Community
Day was a huge success! We owe our thanks to all who gave of their
time to produce a spectacular parade, delicious food, dance music,
children's activities, and stellar business expo.
A special thank you is extended to Diane Johnson,
Donna Kramer, and Ann Iacono for their amazing organizational
skills in the planning of each event that ensured a good time to
all who attended. We are also grateful to Penn-Delco
and Teamster bus drivers who provided transportation.
Thank you for all that you have done to give us another
memorable and successful Aston Township Community Day!
Congratulations to Mrs. Nancy Bowden, who received Citizen
of the Year Award, and Sun Valley High School's Vanguards Baseball
Team, who were named Grand Marshals.

Congratulations
to Ryan Pinkowicz who received the Student/Passport to History
Award on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Delaware County
Historical Society Museum and Library in Chester, PA.
This award is given to a student who completes the
Passport History Program, demonstrates initiative, and creates a
special project that promotes local history.
Ryan, who attends Northley Middle School, is the son of
Barry and Janilyn Pinkowicz.

Aston
Township's Police Chief Al Fasano recently received the
President's Distinguished Alumni Award from Dr. Rosalie Mirenda,
president of Neumann
|
College.
This award is given to outstanding alumni who exemplify the
characteristics of leadership, dedication, and commitment to
Neumann College.

Chief Al Fasano is a 1987 graduate of Neumann College.
He received this
distinguished
award on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at an awards ceremony held at
Neumann College. Congratulations,

Community
News
Aston
Township Lions Club held their 58th Charter Night on
October 19, 2006 at the Concordville Inn.
Guest speaker, Dr. Leslye Abrutyn, superintendent of
Penn-Delco School District reviewed the many changes that have
occurred over the years and the many challenges facing educators
today.
Twenty-five members of our club were presented with 100%
attendance awards for 2005-2006. This award is given to Lions who attend two meetings or
worked on at least two Lion projects per month.
Walter Longhurst was presented with a pin that signified 53
years of perfect attendance.
Our most significant award was presented to Donald
Mercadante. He was
awarded the Melvin Jones Award, the highest award given by the
Aston Township Lions Club. This
award is based upon a point system for services performed to the
club and the community.
Lion Mercadante joined the Aston Lions upon invitation from
his brother-in-law, James Hinderhofer in March 1990.
Donald has earned 16 years of perfect attendance, served as
our 2004-2005
|
president,
and was advisor to the Leo Club along with his wife, Ellen, from
1991 to 2000. He
sponsored five new Lions and has served on numerous committees
within the club.
Aston Township Lions are proud to bestow the Melvin Jones
Award to Lion Donald Mercadante.

General
Federation of Women’s Club will hold their board meeting at 7pm
on Monday, November 20 at the home of Marionette Shahadi.
GFWC’s general meeting scheduled for 7pm on Monday,
November 27 will highlight the Marcus Hook Plank House with guest
speaker John Manerchia at Aston Community Center.
