   Attention World War II Veterans!  This year marks the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.  State Representative Stephen Barrar is working with local veterans’ organizations to identify and honor World War II Veterans living in the 160th legislative district in order to present our veterans with a certificate and commemorative medal from the House of Representatives.  For more information, please contact State Representative Stephen Barrar at his district office (610-485-7606) or logon to his website at www.SteveBarrar.com.    

   Aston Township Historical Society will hold their next meeting on Thursday, February 9, at the Aston Township Municipal Building at 7:30pm.  Mike Manerchia, owner of the Plank House in Marcus Hook, will discuss the recent historical artifacts that continue to be unearthed from his property, dating back to the 1600’s.  The Plank House, thought to be the home once visited by Blackbeard, is currently considered one of the ten most important historical finds in the State of Pennsylvania.

   Aston Township Historical Society hosts a large collection of memorabilia at the Aston Community Center.  Hours of operation are Mondays from 11am to 2pm and 6:30pm to 8:30pm; and Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm.  Additional times can be arranged by appointment.  For more information please contact Pat Smith, President, at 610-494-4707.  

   Aston A. A. Cheerleaders performed in the Star Spangled Open Championship held on January 8, 2006 at the Mariners Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland.  The 6-8 year olds and the 9-12 year olds both won 1st place in their respective competition routines.  Three cheers for our Aston A.A. Cheerleaders!  

   Late signups are scheduled at the Aston Community Center on February 1, 8, and 15, between 7-9pm, for anyone interested in joining the Aston Valley Baseball League (AVBL).  For information please email playeragent@avbl.org or call Steve at 610-494-6342.

     The Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Company will be hosting their annual carnival beginning April 11 through April 15.  Family nights are scheduled for Tuesday, April 11 and Wednesday, April 12 and will offer the opportunity to purchase $15 wristbands that include unlimited rides for each evening.  Please come out and support our fire company!  For more information on the upcoming carnival, please logon to our website at www.greenridge63.com or call 610-494-6771.

   The Board of Directors of Aston Senior Citizens will hold their monthly meeting at 9:30am on Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at the Aston Community Center.  Anyone interested in attending, please call Mr. Fran Davis (610-497-1397) for inclusion on the agenda.

   Additionally, Aston Senior Citizens will hold their general meeting and luncheon at 10:45am on Thursday, February 23, 2006 at the Community Center.  Guest speaker, Joe Cisco will share information on how to safely manage money during retirement years. 

   Aston Public Library holds their board meetings at 7pm on the third Tuesday of each month at the library.  

   From September through May, the adult book discussion group meets at the library at 7pm on the third Wednesday of the month to read a group selected book and participate in group discussion.   For more information, please contact the Aston Public Library at 610-494-5877.   

   Friends of the Aston Public Library asks anyone interested in signing up their children for Story Times to please register in person, at the library.  Story Times offers the following days and times for children ranging in ages from infant to 5 years of age.

Tuesdays at 10am & 11am
4 – 5 years of age:
Tuesdays at 1pm

       The Delaware County Library System invites you to the 2006 Heck-of-a-Good Book Sale, scheduled to be held on March 10, 11, & 12 at the Granite Run Mall.  A portion of the proceeds will be distributed to a Mississippi

library damaged by the hurricanes, and a portion will benefit Delaware County’s library youth services.  We are collecting items through February at Aston Public Library, Granite Run Mall, and other locations.  (Please, no condensed books, textbooks, encyclopedias, or National Geographic magazines.)  Logon to www.delcolibraries.org for the list of collection locations, and for updates on the sale.  You may also contact Aston Public Library directly at 610-494-577.  Sponsorships for this program are still available.  Please contact David Belanger at 610-891-8622 for information on sponsorship. 

   Girl Scout Cookies are on sale until February 28.  Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania will be selling cookies every weekend, until the end of the month, at one of these Aston locations:

   Aston Post Office, Wachovia Bank, Walgreens, & Wawa. 

   Aston A.A. Girls Softball 2006 season is starting!  Sign-ups will be held in the Aston Community Center lobby on:

At a dinner meeting on January 5, 2006 the Aston Lions inducted three new members; Anthony DeBlazio of Aston, James Longhurst of Brookhaven, and Charles (Chuck) Grassano of Bethel Township.  Inducted in December 2006 was Rock J. Polomano of Aston.
