Have you ever wondered what to
do with empty laser printer cartridges?
Our school district has devised a plan to recycle laser
printer cartridges through partnership with Staples Office Supply.
Mr. Kevin Siegel,
Northley Middle School Environmental Club Advisor reports,
“Each discarded empty laser printer cartridge adds approximately
three pounds of waste to our landfills.
Industry analysts estimate a spent cartridge can be reused
or remanufactured between 3 to 7 times which lessens the amount of
cartridges placed into our landfills.
More than 1.1 billion inkjet cartridges are used annually,
around the world. If these cartridges were laid end to end, they would be 129
times as long as the Great Wall of China.
Staples will donate $3 directly to our school for every
eligible ink or toner cartridge we collect.
This is money that we will use for school programs and
fundraisers.”
Please send cartridges to the
attention of Mr. Kevin Siegel, advisor, Environmental Club, at
Northley Middle School.
