Theatre
…….March 18
The
Neumann College Theater Ensemble presents Cabaret, “a musical
with an edge” from the 1960s, was adapted into an Academy
Award-winning film version starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey in
1972. The stage production enjoyed a very successful revival on
Broadway in the late ’90s. Set in 1930s Germany as the Nazis
were beginning their rise to power, Cabaret puts us in a world
where people turned to sordid entertainment to distract themselves
from the growing poverty, hatred, and violence around them.
Cabaret boasts a solid book and exceptionally fine songs by
Kander and Ebb, including the famous title song as well as “Wilkommen,”
“Don’t Tell Mama,” and “Tomorrow Belongs to Me.”
