Attention teachers and business professionals!  Neumann College is offering a 24-hour Leadership Institute entitled “Ethics at Work” on Thursday and Friday, June 1 & 2, 2006.  This seminar

will engage participants in discussions with leaders who have faced workforce challenges that impacted their organizational growth and development.  Decision-making simulations, case studies, and practical, shared experiences will focus on the intelligence analysis and innovation needed for ethical workforce development and retention. 

   Educators…Under PA Act 48, educators holding public school certification must participate in ongoing professional education activities in order to maintain

certification.  The 2006 Leadership Institute at Neumann College, “Ethics at Work,” is approved for 12 hours of Act 48 credit.

Rotary Club of Glen Riddle will host Rotary Awareness Night, sponsored by Sun East Federal Credit Union, on June 7 at the 30th Annual Delaware County Fair held at the Granite Run Mall.  The Fair will run from Wednesday, June 7 through Sunday, June 11 and hours are 6pm to 10pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday; 12 Noon to 10pm on Saturday; and 12 Noon to 6pm on Sunday.  Come to the fair on Wednesday, June 7, and pay only $12 for a wristband and ride all night long! 

   This is the main fundraiser of the year for Rotary Club of Glen Riddle who sponsors a variety of charities that include Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Women’s Alternatives, Cerebral Palsy, in addition to supporting Aston Valley Baseball League and Aston-Middletown Little League.  Coupons for the $12 wristbands can be obtained by contacting Dick Lehr, township manager, Aston Township Municipal Building, 610-494-1636. 

We are looking for former members of General Federation of Women’s Club to join us in celebration of our 50th anniversary in October 2006.  Anyone who would like to participate in this milestone event may contact Norma Locke, president, at 610-497-5234.

 Aston Lioness Club will hold their monthly board meeting at Aston Community Center on Thursday, June 1, at 7pm.  Their dinner meeting will be held at American Legion Post 926 on Thursday, June 22 at 6:30pm.  Installation of new

members will take place at this meeting in addition to a “fancy bag” auction and disclosure of Acts-of-Kindness – Secret Partners.  For more information, please call Ilene M. Haschak, president, at 610-494-2080.

 

General Federation of Women’s Club has scheduled their finance meeting at the home of Betty Boyd on Monday, June 5, at 7pm. 

   The annual GFWC picnic, scheduled for Monday, June 12, at 6pm, will be hosted at the home of Lois Sweigart.

   Norma Locke, president of GFWC, will hold the club’s planning meeting at her home on Monday, June 19, at 6:30pm.

Aston A. A. Football Cheerleading registration is scheduled at Aston Community Center on Wednesday, May 31; Thursday, June 1; Friday, June 2 from 6pm to 8pm; and on Sunday, June 4 from 1pm to 3pm.   Due to the time constraint in ordering uniforms the last day to register for football cheerleading is June 4 and late registrations can not be accepted.  Cheerleaders range in age from 5 to 16.  The five year-olds must start kindergarten in September 2006 and 16 year-olds must have celebrated their birthday prior to May 1, 2007.

   The registration fee of $80 is due at the time of registration along with a copy of the registrant’s birth certificate.  A parent or legal guardian must also be in attendance to sign registration forms.  Additional fees will apply for the uniform and other related clothing items.

   Aston A. A. Football Cheerleading organization will also be accepting registrations for their annual “Cheer Camp.”  Cheer Camp, this year, is scheduled for August 21, 22 & 23 and will be held at Aston Community Center.

Commencing the week of Monday, June 19, Aston Public Library will host a pet show open to all animals.  Proper registration is required and special prizes will be awarded to all who enter.

   On Wednesday, June 21 at 1pm, Jungle John and his reptiles will make a special appearance and on Wednesday, June 28 at 1pm, ventriloquist Marian and Friends will visit Aston Public Library in support of their summer children’s programs.

The Aston-Middletown Little League is hosting two upcoming invitational tournaments that include participation of teams throughout the Delaware Valley.

   “Ryan Ferris Memorial Tournament” is held in honor of Ryan Ferris, an exceptional 14 year-old boy who was tragically killed in a fire at his Aston home in 1998 after saving the lives of his mother, brother and sister.  Russ Carlson of BeneServ sponsors this double-elimination tournament for 11 year-olds, held on the major league field from June 22 to July 1, 2006.  Each year, Jerry and Roberta Ferris, assist in kick-off of the first tournament game and present a donation check from tournament proceeds to Aston-Beechwood Fire Company after the championship game.

   The second invitational tournament, “Franny McLaughlin Memorial Tournament” commemorates the life of Franny McLaughlin who was a generous community member, volunteer, and coach.  This double-elimination tournament for 9 year-olds will be held on the American League Field from June 22 to July 1, 2006.

   Additionally, part II of the Silent Auction will be held from 8:30am to 2pm on Saturday, June 10 at Aston-Middletown Little League Parade & Pride Day.  Local businesses contribute donations for this event.  If you would like to make a donation or need information on sponsorship or volunteer opportunities at Aston-Middletown Little League, please
