Dr. Frank Grandizio of Aston Chiropractic is sponsoring the program “Books for Troops” through the national “Operation Paperback” organization that supplies military forces with paperback reading materials.  Operation paperback is a non-profit, grassroots program founded in 1999.  The “gently” used, donated, paperback books are sent to American troops deployed overseas.

The Aston A.A. cheerleaders’ camp will be held 9am to 3pm, from August 21 through August 23, at the Community Center.  Registration deadline is August 10.  If you want to learn more about this fun and exciting opportunity please contact Marianne Perry at 610-494-9130 or Maria Adamidis at 610-358-6004 for more information. 

The General Federation of Women’s Club held their installation of officers’ dinner at the Little Inn in Media.  Past president, Barbara VanZandt, installed the following officers:  Norma Locke, president; Virginia Burbage, treasurer; and Marionette Shahadi, secretary.  The GFWC holds regularly scheduled meetings beginning in September that will be listed in next month’s newsletter.  Please mark your calendars now for the celebration

  

of their organization’s 50th anniversary on October 28.  The GFWC is looking for former members to join them at this momentous occasion.  For more information please contact Norma Locke, 610-497-5234.

Aston Senior Citizens can call 610-485-3164 for an application and information.  Membership requires that applicants are 55 years of age or older and a resident of Aston Township.  

The Aston Lioness Club installed new officers for 2006-2007:

Marionette Shahadi, president; Joanne Baldino, 1st vice president; Deborah Finley, 2nd vice president; Antionette Bonaquisti, 3rd vice president; Patricia Strouch, recording secretary; Pat Crisculo, financial secretary; and Suzanne Crawford, treasurer.

   The Aston Lioness Club will begin meeting regularly in September.  Meeting dates and times will appear in September’s issue of Township Times.

Business News 

The Aston Business Association’s 5th Annual Golf Outing sponsored by First Keystone Bank will be held on September 11, 2006 at the Loch Nairn Golf Club.  Registration is scheduled from 8:30am to 10:15am; shotgun starts at 10:30am; and play from 10:30am to 4:30pm.  Hennessy’s Restaurant will host the dinner and awards ceremony beginning at 5:30pm.  All proceeds from this event are donated to Aston-Beechwood Fire and Ambulance Company, Green Ridge Fire Company, and the Aston Police Department.

   Additionally, the Aston Business Association in partnership with Aston Township Police Department is coordinating a trading card program featuring photographs of our township’s police officers along with a biography on the reverse side.  Cards will be issued to the young residents of our township for doing good deeds, wearing helmets, and introducing themselves to officers they see in and around the township.

   Numerous businesses are already on board as sponsors of this program but a few more are needed.  Sponsors will be listed on the back of the card and will include their business name and logo and will also be listed in all press releases.

   This is a four-month program and the cost for sponsorship is only $200 which covers the cost of printing, publicity, and prizes that will be awarded to the children at a later date.

Municipal News 

Crossing guards are needed!  Criminal background and child abuse clearance is required.  Hourly wage is $11.17 per hour.  Anyone interested in learning more about these job opportunities can contact the Aston Township Police Department at 610-497-2633. 

Recycling items will be picked up during the weeks of August 7-11 and August 21-25.  Please note your calendars!
