Aston Lioness Club will hold their monthly board meeting at 7pm on Thursday, September 7 at Aston Community Center.  Their dinner meeting will be held at 6:30pm on Thursday, September 28 at American Legion Post 926.  For more information on these meetings or for membership opportunities please contact Ilene Haschak at 610-494-2080. 

Delaware County Senior Community Services is sponsoring a variety of events throughout the fall and winter months that will be held at Aston Community Center. 

Water Color classes begin Thursday, September 14 through December 7, 2006 from 9:30am until 11:30am. 

Country Line Dancing classes begin on Thursday, September 14 through November 16, 2006 from 2pm until 3pm. 

AARP 55 Alive Driving Course begins Wednesday, October 4 though October 6, 2006 from 9am until 1pm.

American Legion Post 926 held an installation banquet for newly elected officers on August 5, 2006.

John Burrell, commander; Bob Sexton, 1st vice commander; Dave Groch, 2nd vice commander and service officer; Bob Farrell, finance officer; Jim Schmidt, adjutant; Jack Kowal, historian; Augie Churn, Sgt. at Arms; Joe Cuff, assistant Sgt. at Arms; Tom Luke, steward; Eric Barraclough, Sons of Legion; and Maryanne Bradley, auxiliary president.

   American Legion Post 926 is open Monday through Saturday from 11am until 1am and Sunday from 11am until 12 Midnight.  To reach the office or inquire about hall rentals please call 610-494-8649 or email post926@comcast.net. 

Aston Township Veterans’ Memorial Foundation is looking for volunteers.  As the memorial site construction begins to reach its final stages the

  

foundation board is seeking volunteers to serve on the fundraising committee with the goal of raising the final $100,000 needed for construction fees.  The foundation has already raised over $150,000 through grants and the

sale of bricks, benches and flags.  If you are interested in serving on the fundraising committee please contact Jack Holefelder, foundation chairman at 610-494-4035 or Dick Lehr, township manager, at 610-494-1636. 

Community Day is fast approaching!  Scheduled for Saturday, October 7, the parade will begin at 10am from the parking lot at Neumann College.  We are looking for individuals, clubs, and organizations to participate in the parade with walking brigades, floats, antique or classic cars, and motorcycles.  Please contact Ann Iacono at 610-485-7606 for more information on parade activities.

   Additionally, the business expo will be held at the Community Center starting at 11am.  All Aston businesses are welcome to attend this well-received event and need to respond immediately as space is limited. For information on the business expo please contact Terry Yannuzzi at 610-497-4019.

   REMINDER!  The baby parade and costume contest for infants to 5 year-olds will be held at 2pm at the Community Center.  Prizes will be awarded.  For general questions regarding Community Day please call Diane Johnson at 610-494-4035.   

St. Francis de Sales, located on New Road in Lenni, is currently planning their yearly Octoberfest event that will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 9am to 7pm.  A limited number of vendor tables are available at $20 each.  Interested crafters may contact Tammy at 610-358-0649 or Sue at 610-459-3864 for information. 

The board of directors of Aston Senior Citizens will hold their monthly meeting at 9:30am on Tuesday, September 12, at Aston Community Center.  

 The Aston Senior Citizens general meeting and luncheon will be held at 10:45am on Thursday, September 28 at Aston Community Center.  All members attending will receive a free hoagie lunch and enjoy musical

 

 

entertainment provided by Angelo Torrisei.

   Membership dues will remain at $10 and must be paid by October 31.  Any Aston resident, 55 and older, wishing to join Aston Senior Citizens may call 610-485-3164 for an application and additional information. 

Aston Township Historical Society invites the public to attend their next meeting at 7:30pm on Thursday, September 14 at the Aston Township Municipal Building.

   Guest speaker Stan Bowman, from Thorndale, is a former resident of Delaware County and a retired school teacher.  He is a forty-year member of the National Railway Historical Society, Chester County Historical Society and Haverford Township Historical Society.

   Mr. Bowman’s presentation will include a slide show and historical timeline of our local trolley lines, concentrating on the Media, Chester, and 69th Street areas.

   The Aston Township Historical Society Museum is located at the Aston Community Center on Concord Road and is open to visitors on Monday and Wednesday from 11am to 2pm; and Monday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.  For more information on the Aston Township Historical Society and membership opportunities please contact Pat Smith, president, at 610-494-4707. 

The General Federation of Women’s Club will participate in the Annual Aston Community Day parade on Saturday, October 7.  In addition to their float presentation at the parade the GFWC will also sponsor a table at the Expo held inside of the Aston Community Center beginning at 11am.  Chances will be available to win a handmade quilt created by Gloria Armstrong.

    Additionally, GWFC will celebrate their 50th anniversary of service to the community with a tea on Saturday, October 28, at Aston Community Center.  Former members are welcome to attend.  For information on these and other upcoming GFWC events please contact Norma Locke, president, at 610-497-5234.
