Friends of the Chester Creek Branch, Inc., (“Friends”) is an Aston based not-for-profit organization whose mission is to convert the existing Chester Creek branch rail line into a multi-use trail.  Friends has been working toward this goal with SEPTA, Delaware County, and Aston and Middletown Townships.  We are proposing to convert this rail line, located in Aston, Chester, and Middletown Townships, into a public trail for walking, hiking, and bicycling.  Phase I of this project which is currently being discussed, will create a trail from Lenni Road to Chester Creek Road in Middletown.  Phase I will also clean up, repair, and repaint the “Graffiti Bridge” over Pennell Road in Aston.  Representatives from Friends will be in attendance at the next Recreation and Open Space meeting on November 10, at 7pm, Aston Township Municipal Building, to discuss highlights of the recent feasibility study and conduct a question and answer session.  The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.  Friends of the Chester Creek Branch, Inc., is a volunteer organization designed to preserve open land for the enjoyment of residents, thereby, enhancing the community and protecting the environment.  Please visit their website at chestercreektrail.org for more information on this project.  If you have any questions, you may contact Mike Fusco, president, at 610-558-3186 or email foccb@comcast.net.

Engraved brick pavers, wooden benches, and plants are just a few items that are available through the Veterans’ Memorial Garden
Foundation to honor a past or present military service member. Donations, such as these, will be used to assist the completion of our Veterans’ Memorial Garden that honors veterans who served in all branches of the U.S. military, Merchant Marines, police, fire and emergency personnel.

The site of Veterans’ Memorial Garden is located at the five-point intersection of Concord, Pennell and Knowlton Roads.  Make a donation to this worthy cause and give the gift of a lifetime, honoring that special someone.  Brochures on this fundraiser are available, in the brochure racks, at the Aston Township Municipal Building and Aston Community Center.  For more information, please contact Jack Holefelder, Chairman of Veterans’ Memorial Garden Foundation, at 610-494-4035, or Dick Lehr, Aston Township Manager, at 610-494-1636.

Our yearly Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, December 7, at 7pm.  Mark your calendars now because this is a date you don’t want to miss!  Christmas carols will be performed by a group of very talented, young people from our township and Santa will make a special appearance.  Refreshments will be served.  More information on this special evening will be publicized on our public access channel and also in December’s issue of  the Township Times.
