All our Aston Athletic Association teams won in the championship games in November. Congratulations boys and cheerleaders! You all worked so hard for it! The Pee Wee squad defeated Springfield 6-2, the Junior squad defeated Glenolden 8-0, and the Senior squad defeated Claymont 16-0.

Congrats to Coach Possenti and the Vanguards on their Turkey Day victory over Chichester ending a stellar season.

Our local GFWC in cooperation with GFWC Pennsylvania, is participating in the “Hugs and Kisses” project. Hats, gloves, scarves, and undergarments will be collected and distributed through local agencies for children in need of such items. Aston Lioness Club works closely with Aston Lions Club in their support of a variety of community-based services.  The Aston Lioness Club will hold their monthly board meeting at 7pm on Thursday, December 7 at Aston Community Center.  All members are invited and encouraged to attend board meetings.  A dinner meeting will not be scheduled for the month of December.  There will be a "gift wrapping" at the Granite Run Mall with the members of the Lioness Club coming to the rescue of us who have no wrapping talent. The "X-MassWrap" event will be held December 23-24 all day.

Aston Senior Citizens have planned a trip to "3 Little Bakers – Christmas Show." This year’s show is a nostalgic recreation of some of the most popular Christmas arrangements of all time. The same sounds our parents played for us and we now play for our children will be performed live on stage with a dynamic cast of singers and dancers. Do you remember  Fred

Waring and The Pennsylvanians? How about Perry Como and those wonderful Andy Williams TV Christmas specials? Surely you have heard the Carpenter’s Christmas recording. If not, you are in for a treat, and even if you have heard them before you will delight in hearing a wonderful cast recreate these holiday memories.

The board of directors of Aston Senior Citizens will hold their monthly meeting at 9:30am on Tuesday, December 12, at the Aston Community Center.  Anyone wishing to attend should contact Ann Canning, president, at 610-494-1595.

Municipal News

What's a holiday party or even the traditional Christmas morning scene itself without a beautifully decorated tree? If your household, as those of more than 33 million other American homes, includes a natural tree in its festivities, take to heart the sales person's suggestion --"Keep the tree watered." That's good advice and not just to create a fragrant indoor winter wonderland atmosphere. Christmas trees account for 200 fires annually, resulting in 6 deaths, 25 injuries and more than $6 million in property damage. Typically shorts in electrical lights or open flames from candles, lighters or matches start tree fires. Well-watered trees are not a problem. Dry and neglected trees can be. BeSafe-BeSmart!

Recycling items will be picked up December 1, December 11-15; and December 26-29.  Please note your calendars!

The Township will be closed for business Christmas Day and December 26th. Trash pickup for the remainder of Christmas week, a short work week  Dec. 27th through Dec. 29th will be as follows:

On Wednesday December 27th, we will pick up trash normally picked up on Monday and Tuesday. On Thursday December 28th, we will pick up trash normally picked up on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday December 29th, we will pick up trash normally picked up on Friday.
