Employee of the Month

Employee of the Month for February 2006 is George Savastano.  George is a code enforcement officer and has been employed by Aston Township for the past 13 years.  Congratulations, George!

A Message from Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Office reminds township residents to clear snow and ice from sidewalks to create a pathway no less than thirty inches in width.  This pathway is to be covered with ashes,

sawdust, or other similar material to ensure the safety of all residents.  Snow and ice must be cleared from sidewalks no later than thirty hours after snow or sleet has ceased to fall.   Please refer questions regarding this ordinance to the Code Enforcement Office at 610-494-0384.

From the Pen of Our Police Chief

I wish to personally thank each and every volunteer from the Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Aston-Beechwood Fire Company, and Delco Fire Police who were on-hand to assist our police force in search of a missing child.

Within minutes after making our request to form a search team we had 16 volunteers at the station ready to begin search efforts.

Fortunately, the missing child was found, unharmed, and the search team was not needed.

Thank you Green Ridge Volunteer Fire Company, Aston-Beechwood Fire Company, and Delco Fire Police for your commitment and dedication to the safety and welfare of our residents.

-Chief Al Fasano

Professional Profiles

Code Enforcement Official, Emory W. Driscoll, Jr. has been employed by Aston Township for 9 years as code officer for residential and business properties.

Emory is responsible to ensure that all aspects of a building are operating under code requirements as determined by township ordinances.  During an inspection, Emory visually inspects electrical, plumbing, water, and heating systems.  In addition, he verifies that smoke and carbon monoxide
detectors are present and in working order, along with the overall condition of the interior and exterior of the building that includes door frames, stairways, ceilings and walls, floors, door frames, and sanitary conditions.

Emory W. Driscoll

Attending a home inspection with Emory is an experience.  Working in a methodical manner, he thoroughly reviews all aspects of the building’s code requirements and upon

completion of an inspection he always makes a new friend, whether the home owner or real estate agent, who is in attendance during the inspection.

Emory, a gentle giant, is a kind man who takes his job very seriously.  “I enjoy what I do,” says Emory, “and I have a responsibility to every new family and business that moves into our township to ensure that their buildings are in perfect order.  Safety is everything.”

When Emory is on the road performing building inspections, you may see him from time to time shaking hands or sharing a funny story with township residents.  Emory has a special gift for making friends everywhere he goes.

Ralph Maiden, Senior Code Enforcement Officer comments, “Emory is a loyal employee and can always be counted on, even on the weekends.”

Over 4 years ago, it seemed as if the Aston A. A. Cheerleaders would not have the opportunity to continue with their program until Mrs. Maria Adamidis decided that the program was far too valuable to see it fold. “I
knew when I took on the directorship of the cheerleading squads it would require a lot of time but I knew every minute I spent in keeping it running would be worth the effort,” says Maria.  “Both of my daughters were actively involved

in the program and, as a mother, I saw positive changes as they became more outgoing.  They learned sportsmanship and how to be a team player.”  Maria continues, “The first year I was involved in the cheerleading program we had 120 girls.  The following year we had 225.  I personally delivered flyers and registration information to everyone I could think of.  I believe in this program, and our cheerleaders.  They are an amazing group of young women.”

With the exception of only two months each year, April and part of May, the other 10 months include a flurry of activities that include registration, measuring and ordering of uniforms, recruitment of coaches, scheduling practices for 7 cheerleading teams, ordering of trophies, and organizing competitions.

The Aston A.A. cheerleading program is one that is available due to the dedication and commitment of volunteers.  If you would like to assist Maria and coaches for the upcoming cheerleading season, please contact Maria at 610-358-6004 or email her at: cheermommie@hotmail.com.
