The Penn-Delco School
District’s liaison to township commissioners – Aston
Elementary Principal Gary Bender, recently reported that the
district is getting ready to select a new superintendent.
“I think they’re very close
to making a decision in that area,” Bender said of the school
board.
Bender was welcomed back by
commissioners, after suffering an aneurysm and brain hemorrhage
last December. The principal credits the quick response of the
school nurse and Aston-Beechwood paramedics in saving his life.
“I’ve gotten a clean bill of
health from the doctors, so I can wait another 59 years for this
to happen again,” Bender quipped.

SWDCMA Faces New Standards
Southwest Delaware County
Municipal Authority officials are bracing for the release of new
DEP standards for sewage treatment.
The DEP will be announcing
revised TMDLs (total maximum daily loads) later this year. The
changes are aimed at reducing the level of nitrogen and
phosphorous released into Chester Creek, but the immediate result
will be greater operating costs for every sewer authority along
the stream.
How much costs will rise and the
subsequent effect on user rates is unknown, according to SWDCMA
Board Member Nelson Schaffer.
“If passed, this will have a
significant impact on the authority, so we’re tracking this very
closely,” Schaffer recently told township commissioners.
Schaffer stated that a draft
2006 audit of the sewer authority was recently submitted and is
now available for public review. The SWDCMA website is currently
being upgraded, but will hopefully be up and running soon.
