about aston

This site is dedicated to Fran McLaughin who created the original site from which we were all motivated to present all of what you see. He dedicated much of the final years of his life creating Aston Township's first municipal website. In thanks, we have maintained some of what he created here in memory of his efforts. The banner, the color scheme, and some of the design work still remain in his honor.

First Ward Commissioner V. Michael Fulginiti stands with coaches and players of the U-12 Aston-Middletown Little League team, who won a championship this past baseball season.

Aston Produces Champions

Aston-Middletown Little League’s 12-year-old district team won the District 19 title this year, marking their first undefeated championship season in the last 19 years. Team members included Billie Buckwalter, Sean Conrad, Bryan Eichinger, Alex Kluka, Jake Burrell, John Convery, Billy Ford, Frankie Saviski, Gabriel Chuckran, Shane Donnelly, and Joey Kirby. The winning coaching staff was led by Manager Bruce Burrell and Assistant Manager Bill Ford.

The Aston Athletic Association’s Pee Wee Division Bandits football team won the Delco League championship for the second year in a row, recently beating the Chester Panthers 21-0 to claim the title.

First Ward Sponsors Coat Drive

Residents of Aston’s First Ward will be organizing a winter coat drive in January, under the coordinating efforts of Tammy McDonald. Persons or parties who would like to donate outerwear to the cause can contact McDonald through the township office at 610-494-1636.

Help Keep Community Center Clean

The Aston Community Center maintenance crew is making a plea to those who use the facility: Please do not litter on the grounds. The front door area is a popular smoking area for visitors, which has to be cleaned up by staff. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the Community Center beautiful.

Dougherty Adds To Award ‘Hat Trick’

Convent Rd. resident Paul Dougherty was feted last month by commissioners, who presented the Aston Historical Society co-founder with a township proclamation to honor his community service.

Since Dougherty was a part-time Aston police officer for 15 years, it was jokingly noted by Fifth Ward Commissioner/Lifetime Resident James McGinn that Paul was the only person to have arrested a member of the board of commissioners. Dougherty also served on the township planning commission for three years, and 16 years on the zoning hearing board.

In 1962, the amateur historian starting collecting old photographs of his hometown, and 30 years later he realized a dream with the official creation of a township historical society to preserve a record of Aston’s heritage for future generations.

Dougherty is no stranger to receiving awards. In 1968, he earned a state safety award for his innovative teen driving education program. In 2002 Paul received the Lee Brown Award for Volunteerism, and he has been honored by the Delaware County Historical Society.

Dougherty is the only Aston resident to have ever been named Aston Township’s Outstanding Citizen three times, receiving that accolade in 1968, 1993, and again in 2005.

“I think that’s a hat trick, Paul,” Commissioner V. Michael Fulginiti declared.

Along with the township proclamation, an engraved plaque recognized Dougherty’s “untiring dedication to serving Aston Township.”
