about aston

This site is dedicated to Fran McLaughin who created the original site from which we were all motivated to present all of what you see. He dedicated much of the final years of his life creating Aston Township's first municipal website. In thanks, we have maintained some of what he created here in memory of his efforts. The banner, the color scheme, and some of the design work still remain in his honor.

“As things stand now, the committee concludes that no logical informed decision can be made,” Murphy said, noting that the outlined research will take a few months to complete.

As of last month, all 15 Edgar Ave. homeowners who suffered losses from a septic backup last spring have had their insurance claims settled. Representatives of the Southwest Delaware County Municipal Authority are planning to meet with Edgar residents on Feb. 4 at the municipal building. All parties will be notified of the session by mail. Discussion will center on a recent engineering study and remediation options to guard against future recurrences.

The SWDCMA holds its workshop meetings on the third Tuesday of every month at the sewer authority office, located at 1 Gamble Ln. in Aston. Formal voting meetings are usually held on the fourth Monday of each month, and will be moved to the township municipal building this year. A 2006 audit should be completed by mid-February, while the planned refinancing of a 1998 bond should save the SWDCMA about $800,000, according to board member Nelson Schaffer.

Aston Police Department Probationary Patrolman Joseph Walsh, Jr. will begin his law enforcement career this month.

New Police Officer Hired

Commissioners have approved the hiring of Aston resident Joseph Walsh as a part-time police officer, effective Feb. 4. The probationary officer’s pay rate will be $18.47/hour, and his probationary status will last one year.

Walsh is a 2001 Sun Valley High School alum and graduated from the police academy this past December. This is the first law enforcement position for the 23-year-old, although he has worked over two years as a security guard at Granite Run Mall.

Walsh must pass physical and psychological examinations before starting his police duties. Commissioners welcomed the young man to the Aston PD and expressed every confidence in his public service abilities.

In other police business, commissioners also authorized the civil service commission to start testing applicants for the rank of sergeant.

Keep Community Center Clean

The Aston Community Center maintenance crew is making a plea to those residents who use the Concord Rd. facility: Please do not litter on the grounds. The front door area is a popular smoking area for visitors and has to be frequently cleaned up by staff. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the Community Center beautiful.
