demonstration of finding the Magic Egg(s)”. The crowd went wild in light of higher stakes.

Field of Dreams

The air was electric with anticipation. The field of competition was wide open – this being the “First Annual” – the favorites were all unknown – although rumblings in the partisan  crowd pointed to their Cinderellas of choice - most of the spectators had already determined their own favorites and couldn’t be swayed. Vegas was not taking bets. It was too close to call in any division.

“MC – Big Bunny”

The 0-3 division seem to be a ready and competitive group – eager to brave the soggy turf! They were first on the agenda and lined up for the starting gun.  All the officials were properly positioned - breaking a cold sweat in anticipation of the coming

chaos. “Bang” or was it “boom” …whatever…they’re off - knee high bodies everywhere scrambling like 49ers in a gold rush. Staking claims on every plastic egg in sight. Head over heels….heels over heads….wet kneecaps and bottoms were everywhere as little hands flung plastic eggs into baskets and bags as fast as the eye could follow. The laughter and giggles were deafening - blocking the sounds of instruction and encouragement from Moms and Dads.

Laughter was deafening

The 4-7 age division was stimulated by their younger counterparts’ performance as they prepared for the starting gun.

Style...all style

Words of encouragement and cheers muted the sound of the starting signal and the older contestants cleared the field in moments leaving only green grass in their wake. “I think the secret to this event is ‘focus’” said one 5 year old contestant. “I never looked up ‘til I couldn’t see an egg in sight.” His three shopping bags full of eggs were evidence of his strategies’ success.

Finally the cool and collected “8 and up” division took their positions at the starting line. There was no mistaking their calm – their experience in the task at hand was evident. They moved deliberately, and artfully gathered their quota. Each contestant had his own persona and style. Quick and cunning they never lost track of their position or that of their competitor’s. Like a ballet of the most agile of agile – in a flash it was over!

At the end of the day, there were only mounds of plastic eggs, Magic or otherwise, resting at the feet of the relentless victors. The Kids of Aston win again! Thanks Big Bunny - you’re the best.
