 Professional Profiles

On Sunday, March 26, 2006, Aston Boy Scout Troop 225 held an Eagle Court of Honor for Patrick Clark who earned the distinguished Eagle rank.   In attendance at Patrick’s Eagle Court of Honor were Pennsylvania State Representative Stephen Barrar, and a representative from United States Congressman Curt Weldon’s office.  Representative Barrar presented a flag, a Pennsylvania House of Representatives Citation and read a congratulatory letter from Governor Ed Rendell.  Congressman Weldon’s office presented Patrick with a flag which flew over the U.S. capitol.  After the ceremony, a reception was held in Patrick’s honor provided by his parents, Glen and Kim Clark of Aston.Patrick has been actively engaged in scouting since 1995 when in first grade he joined Saint Joseph’s Cub Scout Pack 225.  As a Cub Scout, he earned the Arrow of Light and was awarded the Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei Emblems by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.  Patrick progressed, with his class, to Boy Scout Troop 225 in early 2000 and, through the ranks, ultimately passed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on November 16, 2005.Patrick is active in the Aston community and has been recognized on numerous occasions.  For the past three years he has been active in the Aston Leo Club, a youth club associated with the Aston Lions Club. He received several athletic awards including the MVP award while playing with St. Joseph’s CYO soccer and volleyball teams, and the Sportsmanship Award from the Aston Valley Baseball League (AVBL).

Boy Scouts of America Troop 225 is an active troop that meets throughout the year at St. Joseph’s Church in Aston on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm.

The first public appearance of the Aston Township Mass Choir was March 21, 2006 held at Neumann College for the “Salute to the Veterans” program hosted by the Veterans Memorial Garden Foundation.  Since their appearance, choir director Bill Mayo has received numerous inquiries to secure dates to perform for upcoming community events.  “Working with our newly formed township choir is a joy and to receive such accolades in such a short period time, with less than a dozen rehearsal sessions, is a huge compliment to the musical talent of our choir members,” says Bill.  “Anticipating upcoming performance dates, we are currently rehearsing a repertoire of patriotic songs

that will serve a variety of community based events.”

Trained by Metropolitan Opera performers, Mr. Fritz Krueger and Dr. Philip Cho, Bill has maintained friendships with these renowned voice coaches over the past 25 years and who now send him students for vocal training, many of whom are Broadway performers.

An Off-Broadway performer himself, Bill traveled the United States and Canada, in the mid- 80’s, during an extensive 3 year tour with internationally acclaimed “Men of Song.”

As a playwright, Bill’s original work, “Detours” was accepted and performed by Philadelphia Fringe Festival in 2000.  Commissioned by Temple University’s theater department, Bill wrote original music for Moliere’s “The Imaginary Invalid” that enjoyed a 4 week run.  Additionally, Bill created and developed “Performing American Musical Theater” an accredited program that Temple University incorporated into their curriculum in 1999 which still is offered today.

A Temple University professor, for the past 21 years, Bill also runs a private voice studio and has trained hundreds of voices during the past 28 years.  He

The Aston Township Mass Choir meets every Monday evening from 7pm to 9pm at Calvary Episcopal Church on Mount Road.  Anyone interested in joining our township choir may contact Bill directly at 610-888-1870.

The recycling program for unused cell phones is receiving tremendous response!  In just 4 weeks, we have collected over 30 cell phones that were taken to the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority office for refurbishment.     These refurbished cell phones are programmed to reach 911 and issued free of charge to senior citizens and victims of domestic violence who require peace of mind and added security in the event medical  and/or protection assistance is needed.

Please continue to support this important recycling program.  Cell phones, along with their appropriate chargers, can be
dropped off to the Aston Township Municipal Building or the Aston Community Center.  Thank you!
