through CCMC’s auxiliary which has recently reached the 50% mark in their fundraising pledge to support the newly planned $1.5 million dollar emergency room.    

   Aston Lioness Club is a network of women who are committed to service.  Confidentiality is a priority in everything we do.  We do not disclose the names of those our organizations helps, to anyone,” Ilene confides.

   “Aston Lioness’ recently signed on 5 new recruits who will be installed this month.  Nearing a membership total of 100 women, Aston Lioness Club is actively seeking new members who will help sponsor the club’s mission to assist in raising funds to support programs for the visually and hearing impaired.”

   The Aston Lioness Club also sponsors numerous scholarships that are awarded, yearly, to young people based on their achievement and community service.  These scholarships are given to students attending St. Joseph’s, Northley Middle, and Sun Valley High Schools, ranging from 8th to 12th grades.

   In addition to the many services provided by Aston Lioness Club, medical equipment is channeled to those who need this type of medical support.  “We receive medical equipment donations from others who are no longer in need and then relocate the equipment to someone else who does,” states Ilene.

   As a counterpart to the Lions Club, the Lioness’ provide numerous humanitarian services, upholding their club’s motto, “We serve.”  Founded in 1917, the Lions Club International was prompted by Helen Keller, at their 1925 convention, to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”

   Barbara DiMario, founder of the Delaware County Chapter of Parents Of Murdered Children, recently unveiled the second, handmade quilt displaying photographs of those whose lives were taken through the act of murder.  The unveiling of the second quilt took place on the steps of the Media Courthouse at the POMC candlelight vigil held on April 26.

to air sometime during the first two weeks of this month.  During the interview, Barbara spoke about the candlelight vigil event and shared additional information on resources made available through the Parents Of Murdered Children organization.

Delaware County Solid Waste Authority has scheduled a collection date for electronic related items on Saturday, June 3, 2006.  The following items will be accepted at the Emergency Service Training Center, 1700 Calcon Hook Road in Sharon Hill on June 3:

CPU’s, monitors, printers, scanners, peripherals, keyboards, laptops, fax machines, power cords, cables, cell phones, and portable TV’s (console TV’s will not be accepted).

   These same items will also be accepted at Rose Tree Park, Route 252, in Media on Friday, September 29.

   This program is offered as a community service and is not open to business, industry, or institutions.  For more information, please contact Sue Cordes at  Delaware County Solid Waste Authority, 610-892-9716.

During the month of July our government access channel (10) will begin displaying photographs and video clips of township events.  These two features will greatly enhance the information presented on our township’s channel.  Stay tuned…

To date, Aston Township has recycled over 50 cell phones through our Cell Phone Recycling program. Drop off sites
are located at Aston Township Municipal Building and Community Center.  These phones are refurbished,
programmed to reach 911 in the event of an emergency, and given to victims of domestic violence.  Please continue to support this recycling program.  Thank you.
