236.01    CHIEF OF POLICE.

(a)   There is hereby established the position of Chief of Police. The Chief shall be designated or appointed by the Board of Township Commissioners.

(b)   The Chief of Police, subject to the orders of the Board of Township Commissioners or such other person or committee as may be designated by ordinance or resolution of the Board for such purpose, shall be responsible for the administration and operation of the Police Department and the supervision of the members thereof in the exercise and per­formance of their official duties. 236.02    SERGEANTS.

The position or rank of Sergeant in the Police Department of the Township is hereby established and the number of sergeants is fixed at four. When a vacancy exists in the rank of Sergeant, the Board of Commissioners shall, subject to the Civil Service provi­sions of the First Class Township Code, appoint a successor.

236.03    FULL-TIME POLICEMEN.

The position of full-time policeman is hereby established, in such numbers as the Board of Township Commissioners shall determine. (Ord. 183. Passed 4-17-57.)

 

236.04    PART-TIME POLICEMEN.

The position of part-time policeman is hereby established, in such numbers as the Board of Township Commissioners shall determine. Ord. 183. Passed 4-17-57.)

 

236.05    COMPENSATION.

The Board of Township Commissioners shall, by resolution, fix the compensation of the Chief of Police, the Sergeants and other members of the Police Department. (Ord. 333. Passed 3-20-68.)

 

236. 06    SPECIAL SCHOOL POLICE.

School crossing guards shall have the official title of Special School Police. (Res. 208. Passed 5-25-66.)
