814.01    DEFINITIONS.

As used in this chapter:

(a)   “Audible alarm” means any horn or device that emits a warning signal audible outside the building to which it is attached and that is designed to attract at­tention to a burglary or similar emergency.

(b)   “False alarm” means a spurious signal that is not the result of a fire, burglary or similar emergency.

(c)  “Intrusion alarm” means a direct connection to the County police radio, the Police Department or the Fire Companies, which connection automatically activates a visual or audible signal intended to indicate an intrusion, fire or other emergency.

(d)   “Telephone alarm” means an automatically activated alarm transmitted by telephone, directly or indirectly, to the Police Department or the Fire Companies, which is intended to indicate an intrusion, a fire or other emergency.

814.02    AUDIBLE ALARMS.

Audible alarms shall be equipped with a timing mechanism that disengages the audible alarm after fifteen minutes.  (Ord. 419. Passed 8-18-76.)


 

814.03    LIST OF ALARM INSTALLATIONS.

Within thirty days of the effective date of this chapter (Ordinance 419, passed August 18, 1976), every alarm equipment supplier with customers in the Township shall furnish the Police Department with registration information on all alarms that he has installed in the Township or the area served by the Fire Department.     (Ord. 419. 814.04    OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS.

All alarm equipment suppliers who install telephone alarm or intrusion alarm equipment in the Township, whether leasing or selling such equipment, shall furnish operating instructions and a maintenance manual to the customer. This shall be done at the time such equipment is installed or, in the case of equipment installed prior to the effective date of this chapter (Ordinance 419, passed August 18, 197 6), within sixty days of that effective date.  (Ord. 419. 814.05    REPAIRS.

If an alarm system or installation malfunctions or is determined to be faulty, the person whose premises are protected thereby shall be responsible for making necessary repairs within forty-eight hours.  (Ord. 419. Passed 8-18-76.)


 

814.06    FALSE ALARMS.

(a)     No person shall cause a false alarm.

(b) The police officer who responds to an alarm that he determines to be false shall promptly issue a false alarm violation ticket to the person in whose name the alarm is registered. (Ord. 419. Passed 8-18-76.)


 

814.07    REGISTRATION OF ALARM USERS WITH POLICE DEPARTMENT.

All persons connecting to a burglar or fire alarm system within the Township, regardless of whether such connection is from a residential, commercial or industrial use, must register with the Police Department within ten days of the final connection to such system. (Res. 92-53. Passed 4-15-92.)


 

814.08    FINES FOR FALSE ALARMS.

Fines for false alarms, both fire and burglar, made in the same calendar year shall be as follows:

(a)   For a first offense, a warning shall be issued;

(b)   For a second offense, there shall be a fine of fifteen dollars ($15.00);

(c)   For a third offense, there shall be a fine of thirty-five dollars ($35.00);

(d)   For a fourth offense, there shall be a fine of not less than seventy-five dollars ($75.00).

(e)   For subsequent offenses, there shall be a fine of one hundred dollars  ($100.00).

Fines will not be imposed for alarms set off due to power failures, weather-related incidents or other incidents, as determined by the Volunteer Fire Companies or the Police Department.   (Res. 92-53. Passed 4-15-92.)
